On Wednesday March 24th we had some visitors come in to school to teach us all about underwater life.
We learnt the rules around fishing, about the life we can find underwater in a 1 metre square area.
We measured fish to see if they would be legal and used some cool contraptions to make sure shellfish were the correct size.
We learnt about all of the different sea life we might find underwater. We saw coral, anemones and urchins, along with all sorts of other fish.
Finally we all practiced what to do when saving a beached whale. We covered the whale in blankets, made a chain to the water (sandpit), and dumped our water on the whale to save it.
Hi Te Maunga my name is Shivam and I am a year 6 at Paihia School. I liked your post because you learnt about fish and you measured them also you guys looked like you were having fun. I thought you did a great job learning about sea life . Next time could you guys vote on your favourite fish?
ReplyDeleteWhat are some of the fish you learnt about?
Kia Ora Te Maunga, it’s Jade from Te Ngahere. I liked your blog post about sea week visitors because you got to learn how to save a whale that is pretty amazing because I have never seen anyone shoe how to save a whale before. It’s good to learn about the sea and what lives in it. I learnt somethings about the sea when I was three and what I learnt was to always wear a life jacket. My papa talked to me about sharks and how they are cold blooded and how they only come when the water is warm and I think that it is a little bit scary. What are your favourite fish in the whole wide world?
